The elf.

Continuing my series of Icelandic supernatural creatures (the troll is here), this time it's all about elves.

Icelandic elves are quite different from the usual Tolkienesque idea. Sure they're pretty, but they're rather known for killing humans in cold blood. A well-known story tells of a house that gets taken over by elves at Xmas - they barge in and kill every single creature inside, set up their table and have a feast and they do this to that house every effing year. They also kidnap people on an impulse and woe betide if you or someone close to you ends up having an item that in reality belongs to an elf. The rightful owner will stop at nothing, and will likely come up with creative ways of murdering your family members around you to get you to hand over what they want.

Not all of them are quite this troublesome but the basic idea is that they could, and can, be just that bad and that's good to keep in mind. Elves live in large rocks and it's not unusual that when workmen come across one such potential elven home while f.ex. building a road, rather than touching the stone they build the road so that it goes around it.

Elves are hard to tell apart from humans, but they're often said to wear lots of blue. And fancy clothes. Elves seriously love fancy clothes!

Dress, bolero, shirt: Rose Melody
Shoes: Dinsko
All else: randomness

(PS Windy Iceland is seriously windy - that dress is made of heavy wool and it still whipped around in the wind like it weighed nothing.)

  1. This is one of my favourite photoshoots from you, everything just works so well. That dress looks very good on you, not to mention the hairdo. Oh, the hairdo is maybe my favourite thing in this (alongside with the lightning). Beautiful work overall!

    1. Thank you, glad you liked it!

To be honest I was amazed at how well that hairdo fared the weather! XD That skirt is heavy wool fabric and I had a petticoat underneath and still the wind managed to flatten the poof for some photos, and I kept fearing for all the stuff I had tacked on the hair.

  3. Sweet stuff! Really like the dress on you. The landscape and lighting around you goes marvellously with the blue in the dress.

    1. I agree, the colour was actually one of the main reasons I originally fell in love with that dress. The blue that RM uses is just so rich and beautiful!

Iceland: made for blue dresses Y/Y?

    1. It is - the place is really beautiful! The evening light makes everything so... unreal, somehow. :D
