Pole fitness, I love it no matter how badly it treats me.

This is now my second year in pole fitness and boy am I firmly hooked. To clear some possible misunderstandings out of the way, this is more acrobatics and almost no strip tease - well, maybe a little - if you can call it strip tease when I roll my shirt up a bit to gain better grip with my, er, own rolls. Hmm, you probably cannot call it that... nothing very teasing there and some people might feel inclined to pay me to rather keep my clothes on. But as sport this is not only fun in the same way climbing trees was awesome as a child, it's actually really, really hard! Hardest of all when there are cameras involved.

I mean, try to do this while people are shouting "STAY STAY STAY DON'T MOVE WAIT A BIT MORE" for an indefinite amount of time. :D

Absolutely nothing very graceful going on here. On my way to scorpio...

And another one, almost there again. This time I managed to let both hands off the pole but that back leg needs to seriously drop further. A bit less derpy wrists would also not hurt.

"HNNNnnnnngggg..."

The sad truth is that I've all the natural talent and grace of a sack of flour, but at least I'm having fun. That counts for something yes/no? Besides nothing beats that awesome feeling of finally learning some new move I've been trying for months. The above one is not one of those, mind, but f.ex. scorpio took me half a year (!) to get. I'm not kidding about my lack of talent! But just so you wouldn't get the wrong image, here's a sample of someone who knows how to do it right:

Oona Kivelä, I'm such a fangirl of hers. This show would go awesomely well with Páll Óskar's Gordjöss by the way, I may have to send her fan mail and suggest it.

My thanks to my classmates B and S who took these photos.

  1. Ooh tankotanssi!

  6. Argh, your writings there totally cracked me up xD.
But it looks so awesome and every time I see someone's pics/videos of this I just wanna go and try... and I did once. It was a disaster XD. Maybe if I'll find a way to sneak to poke the pole while no one is watching... >u>''.
But! Seriously hard business, you haz my respectz for being able to do all that /u/.

  7. You could also find a beginners' group and shuffle in sekritly. It's a lot easier on the pride to be in a class full of people who don't yet know how to do it than to just walk into a random group of experienced pole dancers.

Some dance classes also allow tryouts, so see what the system is near where you live.
