Into the Unknown.

Into the Unknown

Led through the mist,
By the milk-light of moon,
All that was lost, is revealed.
Our long bygone burdens, mere echoes of the spring,
But where have we come, and where shall we end?
If dreams can't come true, then why not pretend?

Oh how the gentle wind,
Beckons through the leaves,
As autumn colors fall.
Dancing in a swirl,
Of golden memories,
The loveliest lies of all,
The loveliest, lies of all.

Ma Mélodie

M is one of my favourite artists ever and has probably appeared on this blog before, but here's one more favourite of mine, Ma Mélodie.

Five things challenge.

Rules:

1) Link the person who challenged you.
2) Challenge 5 blogs that have less than 200 readers.

Sera of Sweet & Sour Lollipop threw me a challenge. I love challenges by the way!

Five things that I need on daily basis:

Puffins in any shape or form. Shush, they're needful for my well-being. Since the bf counts as one this demand is usually easily met.

Coffee, yes please. My addiction is on such a level that I might die if I don't get my fix.

Also food, because I'll never go a day without it if I can have any say in the matter.

Something pretty/interesting/strange to look at. Tumblr fills this need. Btw the above picture really happened, it's the tragic end of Mme Sophie Blanchard.

Uhhh fifth one fifth one... music! Especially of the whimsy kind.

Five books that I recommend:

Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. An amazing look at the Soviet Union, as an extra recommendation try to get your hands on a version of the book that has all the originally censored parts marked. In this book Satan almost looks like a good guy in comparison...

Skugga-Baldur/Blue Fox by Sjon. A short, cruel yet beautiful story, and one of the rare books I would call magical because - well, let's not spoil the ending.

The Charming Mass-Suicide by Arto Paasilinna. It's exactly as the title has it, a group of people, strangers to each other, who all board a bus to kill themselves - together. It's the funniest thing I've ever read, also very tragic at times but in a Finnish way (IOW so tragic you'll end up laughing)(I really can't describe it in any other way).

No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. In my opinion it's his best book, and so depressing that it crosses the border to amusing. Think Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, in fact that one is heavily influenced by the book!

Endless Night by Agatha Christie. This is a rarity in that it's not one of her detective books. It seems like such a simplistic little story, but it's one that can be read over and over again just to peel back the layers, wondering about things like life, love and humanity.

...And now I realize I somehow recommended five books of different countries that are all somewhere on the scale from melancholy to downright depressing, oh my.

Five materialistic wishes for Bobmas:

Ok, I'm going at this by the way of "if I could ask anything, just anything", so don't worry. It's not a real Bobmas wishlist. :3

A new coffeemaker, the old one's falling apart.

A brocade fukuro obi. I only have one fukuro and that one's of the less-formal end of the scale.

A irotomesode/kurotomesode. I have no formal kimono that I could comfortably wear... I have one furisode but as a 34 old I'd feel a bit weird wearing it.

Candy or cakes. I am that easy.

A puffin cross stitch pattern + threads. Because of reasons.

Five places I want to visit:

Kyoto, although I've been there once already. I want to go again...

Helsinki in the summer because nothing quite beats Helsinki in the summer.

Flatey. I've been there too before but HNNNGGGGH I CAN WANT.

Tokyo, because while I'm listing places I want to re-visit that one definitely ranks high on the list.

(Sorry about the cliche image, to be honest I just couldn't think what kind of a photo to pick.)

India, and then I'll eat all the foods and get Delhi belly.

Five adjectives that describe me:

* Caffeinated
* Frilly
* Brouhaha-ey
* Loud
* Too genki for anyone's sanity

Whoah, that was surprisingly much work and thinking. :D I've seen this meme make its rounds a lot and frankly I can't remember who's had it and who hasn't, so in case you haven't done it but want to consider yourself invited!

AMVs, I love AMVs.

I've been watching AMVs a lot lately and today's find prompted me to write an entry about them. Well, more like link my favourites but you know me, there'll be some blathering about them as well.

What really makes an AMV for me is timing (if everything hits the music just right I'll really get into it), suspension (there has to be some kind of an idea going on behind the AMV, some kind of a plot no matter how confusing, and in Bob's name no repetitions or looping the same scene more than once!) and how well the AMV fits the general mood of the original series.

Here's the one that prompted this whole entry. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei AMV done with killer style. There may be a little pun in the previous sentence wink wonk. Seriously put this AMV captures the spirit of the original flawlessly and I'm watching it now for who knows how manyeth time because wow!

Ok, Princess Tutu; this is not a new one to probably anyone but I believe it really does earn its place as one of the all-time best AMVs ever made. Simply beautiful.

...ok I could not leave this one out. It's simply too hilarious, and if you know this scene from D. Gray-Man you'll know it's quite a stark contrast to what actually happens in the scene that most of the AMV is made out of, and there's absolutely nothing funny going on there. If anything for me this was the first moment of D. Gray-Man when I realized I was in for a ruthless and somewhat traumatizing a story (but of course I love Tyki Mikk - I mean who doesn't?).

Lastly, my own favourite. There hasn't ever been and still is not a single AMV that would top this one for me. It's got everything I look for in an AMV, also holy wow the maker really found all the coolest moments of the medicine seller! Besides there's a bit of a joke included in the selection of the song - it's "Let's Go! Onmyouji!"

Eurovision - oh wow it's here again.

This year, tragically, one of my very favourites is Iceland's entry and I won't be able to vote for it. It's not my favourite because I were developing some soft feelings for my new home - those are already well-developed and mixed well with the occasional "why does everyone drive like they're insane!!!?" -feel - but because I very sincerely like the song. It's a plus that I hear they're going to sing it in Icelandic at the competition.

The usual way things are done here is that the song is in Icelandic while in Iceland and gets translated in English for the competition abroad. Alas, because Icelandic is one of those languages that work on nuances it's almost impossible to accurately convey the original feel and meaning of the song in these translations. So what if the rest of the Europe does not understand Icelandic - that's what subtitles are for.

I have many more favourites for the year of course, but now I'm just going to talk about Iceland's songs that have been memorable to me.

Ahahahahaha aaaaah this woman. Everyone loved to hate Silvia Night, I remember that much from back home. What we and much of Europe did not know though was that Silvia Night is a famous comedian in Iceland and we really should have taken her behaviour with way more salt. That booing in the end is because she had put on her comedian routine which includes lots of bragging and putting others down, but if we take her performance out of that context it's actually quite awesome!

But face it, she really did not stand a chance. I will take this space to remind you of who won that year:

I'm still surprised they didn't set the stage on fire, literally I mean. :D

Anyway, on with Iceland: this is one of the cases where I really wished the song had stayed in Icelandic...

I was really rooting for this one too, it's so sweet. :3

Let's now bring out the big guns! You will NOT be prepared for the mullet! Or the shoulder pads! Or the pants! Or the dance moves and the sparkle - once you watch this one you'll not be prepared for anything you're about to see.

The Finnishness in my soul is rejoicing over how depressing this whole video is. Yes. More. Make me feel mildly suicidal by a Eurovision song and I'll remember you fondly for years to come.

Come oooooon you saw this coming - I'm a huge Páll Óskar fan and the combination of Eurovision and him is like ice cream with chocolate sauce and strawberries.

I'm going to end this post with a song that never made its way to the stages in Europe, and what an unfair thing that was. Oh my God this is the best Eurovision song ever written, everyone else can go home forever! Well ok, Hard Rock Hallelujah was the best. But this comes veeeeery very close!

Shamelessly sharing what I found in another blog, Zeruda's Wonderland:

Amazing!

I do so love these kind of animations! Now I wish I had the link to that one where a guy was "making guacamole" out of at least dice, a light bulb and a tennis ball...

August really is here, isn't it?

I'm on a roll so whoah! A second entry for this blog in one day! I wonder if this has ever happened before and I'm 100% serious about it - I have no recollection of ever posting more than once a day. :O?

Anyways, this post was inspired music. Late summer music. It has to have something bizarre about it to fit the evenings that are turning cold and days that seem to slip through the fingers. Come on summer, don't go, I'm in no hurry to get back to the uni...

In the summer 2012.

Lately I've been ill and because it's the sort of illness that fills my head with goo and headaches I don't want to lie down. I also don't want to do anything. Perfect solution: Orisinal games. Seriously, they're the cutest ever!

Besides that I've also been listening to music a lot a lot a lot, and these following will probably always link very tightly in my mind to this summer and (although hopefully not) this flu.

Ah, Sibylle Baier. What would my summers be without you?

Forgett came in my house yesterday
my house that's not for sale since we had that
sweet tea together since he sits in that leather sofa
since we're together

Ludo's Love Me Dead has to have one of the most amazing videos I've seen in a good while.

"High maintenance" means you're a gluttonous queen,
narcissistic and mean.
Kill me romantically, fill my soul with vomit
then ask me for a piece of gum.
Bitter and dumb, you're my sugarplum

...ok, this one could be here because of the video alone but the song happens to be awesome as well, Scissor Sisters' I Can't Decide. It also kind of lets out the fact that I'm one of those girls* but you know, sometimes secrets aren't forever (I mean if they ever were that in the first place).

I've got to hand it to you
You've played by all the same rules
It takes the truth to fool me
And now you've made me angry

I can't decide
Whether you should live or die
Oh, you'll probably go to heaven
Please don't hang your head and cry
No wonder why
My heart feels dead inside
It's cold and hard and petrified
Lock the doors and close the blinds
We're going for a ride

*You know. One of those that have questionable hobbies.

Sunny day by the river.

Snu was working on a project of his and as a little side extra there was a small photoshoot at Elliðarárdalur near the hydroelectric plant.

The water was SO WARM you guys! But due to the fact that the stream is quite powerful, despite its small size I would never attempt swimming there. ^^;

Here's the outfit so you can actually see what I'm wearing:

All offbrand, the scarf is made by the LJ nick blondedebates in a craft swap!

And because I took a while to climb onto those rocks and back, there was a massive amount of more or less hilarious shots of the process. Proceed at own risk.

Heliumpallo.

Yesterday we had an exam on folk beliefs and even though fairy tales aren't exactly boring or taxing read, it still took quite a lot of energy. But that's ok, today I've slept the whole day away and then I found out there's now a new song by PMMP with an amazing video! I tried to embed it but apparently Blogger is one of the sites that are on a restricted -list so instead I'm just going to link to it. Because OMG that's why.

Beirut: Elephant Gun.

One of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands, besides the video illustrates my current ~*feelings*~ in a pleasantly hipsterish way.

Meme1

I have been tagged by Hortensia! This meme includes soming up with some questions of my own and tagging folk, and those will follow on the second entry (was tagged twice).

What is your biggest dream?

"Dreams are like hair ornaments. Young girls want to wear far too many, while old women look silly wearing even one."
I don't think I have many, not any longer. Not dreams that could be considered "biggest" at least. My dreams tend to be smaller the older I get, for example my current dream is to sleep longer than my bf and get to drink coffee that he made (because coffee that was made for you always tastes better than the coffee you make yourself). I also dream of being able to pull a certain move at the pole class, to get a nice job and to learn Icelandic - well, perhaps that last one indeed could be called "big", as dreams go.

What hobbies do you have?
Pole fitness, lolita, eating, sewing, knitting, reading... anything that can be done indoors where it's warm and nice and cozy.

What is your favourite Disney movie?
In fact I don't like Disney movies very much. However, I do love Fantasia!

What kind of music do you like?
This one's difficult to answer because I like so many types of music. Instead, let me just link something I find awesome no matter what mood I'm on.

What is your favourite fashion is lolita doesn't count?
OTOME OTOME OTOME I mean IDK I need clothes?

How do you spend your sparetime?
I'd like to say I work so hard I don't have any, but alas the real truth is I'm hanging on FB I'm a secret agent.

Do you like drawing? If so, show one of your works!
Nope and nope! :D But have some art by Patrick Woodroffe instead.

Despite the looks of things I am actually having fun in this photo.

Do you like sports?
Quite the contrary, I actively hate most sports. I can tolerate ski jumping and ice hockey if they're on the television but otherwise pole fitness is the only type I actually like.

I need the babies of the person who made this dress, ferserius.

Do you have some kind of special talent?
I can sleep anywhere, anytime. I can enjoy almost any kind of food. I fangirl stronger than anyone if that's ever needed.

Show your dearest thing. It can be a book, necklace etc.
I can own puffins now because I decided so.

Where would you like to travel?
Home to Finland and once more to Japan.

Oh hi I'm still here! :D

Apologies for having abandoned my blog - and the calendar - completely for over a week. I was busy.
Eating.
Anyway, back to the important things in life!
